Man facing upgraded charges after death of bicyclist in Smithfield
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — A man charged after allegedly hitting a bicyclist while under the influence is now facing upgraded charges after the victim died, according to police.
38-year-old Lance Nicoletti was taken into custody and charged with a DUI resulting in bodily injury, and driving to endanger, resulting in bodily injury back in September.
Nicoletti is accused of hitting 65-year-old Robert Metheney, who was taken to the hospital.
According to police, he has since died from his injuries.
Nicoletti how now been charged with a felony DUI of liquor or drugs resulting in death, and felony driving to endanger.
Nicoletti’s next court date is January 22, 2025.
The case is currently being investigated with the Attorney General’s Office.
