40 people displaced after East Greenwich apartment fire

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) – Approximately 40 people were displaced after a morning fire damaged a 24-unit apartment building in East Greenwich.

According to the East Greenwich Firefighters Association, firefighters received a call for a fire at 1474 South County Trail just after 7AM. Crews arrived to find fire coming from the roof of the building. Warwick, West Warwick, North Kingstown and Coventry Fire Departments assisted with mutual aid.

One person was injured in the fire with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Red Cross is currently assisting residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
