Rhode Island’s T.F. Green braces for ‘busiest’ holiday travel day
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Airports nationwide are bracing for record-breaking holiday crowds.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, today is expected to be the peak of holiday travel with more than 50,000 scheduled flights.
AAA says this season could break records, with nearly 8 million passengers expected to head to the airport, which surpasses the previous record of 7.5 million air travelers last year.
Ahead of the holiday, T. F. Green International Airport has become the first location in Rhode Island to deploy GoodMaps, an accessible indoor navigation and interactive digital mapping system designed to make spaces more inclusive for a diverse range of passengers.
The technology uses lidar and AI to give turn-by-turn directions through the airport to help travelers navigate toward their terminals.
Travelers are also dealing with higher prices this year, up 4% for domestic flights and 13% for international flights.
But if you’re navigating long lines or new technology, the holiday spirit is definitely in the air.
