Blue-green algae advisories lifted for several RI lakes and ponds

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has recommended lifting blue-green algae advisories on several bodies of water in the state.

The advisories placed on Slack Reservoir in Smithfield, Blackamore Pond in Cranston, Boone Lake in Exeter and Upper Melville Pond in Portsmouth have all been lifted, according to RIDOH.

Several other bodies of water remain under such an advisory, including Almy Pond in Newport, Lower Melville Pond in Portsmouth, Georgiaville Pond in Smithfield, Mashapaug Pond and Roger Williams Park Ponds in Providence.

Contact with water containing blue-green algae should be avoided, including fishing, boating and other activities.
