Residents assist in arrest of masked, armed man in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — A man has been arrested in connection with reports of a subject walking around Stafford Road with a pistol wearing a mask on Sunday.

Neftaly Arroyo-Gomez, 25, was taken into custody Sunday after officers responded to the Stafford Road area.

Arroyo-Gomez was spotted by police and fled through neighborhood backyards before being subdued by a resident, according to Fall River police.

Arroyo-Gomez was allegedly found in possession of a loaded handgun equipped with a switch device making it fully automatic.

This alteration classified the weapon as a machine gun under law.

Other residents are credited with assisting police in locating the weapon after the suspect discarded it.

Arroyo-Gomez is charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry and other charges.
