CRANSON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston Mayor Kenneth Hopkins announced the selection of the 21st chief of the city fire department Monday.

Daniel E. Marcinko will serve as acting chief pending approval of the permanent role by the city council in January.

Marcinko is succeeding Robert Ryan, who will retire at the beginning of 2025 after serving in the department since 1988.

Marcinko has worked in firefighting and emergency service for 42 years, and joined the Cranston Fire Department in 1990.

He worked his way up in the department as a lineman, lieutenant, captain and deputy chief, earning the position of Assistant Chief of Operations in 2021.

“Marcinko’s experience and unwavering commitment to our community make him the right choice to lead the Cranston Fire Department,” Mayor Hopkins stated.

“I am confident that under his leadership, we will continue to enhance our safety services and support our dedicated firefighters.”
