Police: Shoplifting suspect stole thousands in sunglasses, fled and crashed car

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A suspect known to the Garden City Sunglass Hut and Cranston police is wanted for allegedly stealing $3656 worth of Versace sunglasses Sunday night.

The suspect has a no trespass order against him from the Sunglass Hut due to previous shoplifting incidents, and allegedly stole the nine pairs of sunglasses Sunday night at approximately 5:52 p.m.

He fled on foot and entered a nearby parked car, according to Cranston police.

Officers were notified a short time later of a car that had gone off the road and crashed on an access road to Top Golf from Pontiac Avenue.

Several individuals were seen fleeing from the area on foot.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to the area but was unable to locate the subjects.

Several pairs of new Versace sunglasses were found inside the crashed vehicle and an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect.

He is charged with felony shoplifting and trespassing.
