More rain as we ring in the New Year

Look for a mainly clear starlit sky tonight with temperatures remaining above freezing, only dropping to the mid and upper 30s. The last day of 2024 will start off with bright sunshine, but high clouds will begin to filtered the sun some throughout the afternoon as High temperatures climb into the low 50s. Those clouds will continue to thicken tomorrow evening and it looks to remain dry until about 10PM. Unfortunately, as we are ringing in the Midnight hour tomorrow night rain will be enveloping the region and there could be heavier pockets of rain developing, especially around and after Midnight.  So if you are heading anywhere for New Year’s Eve make sure you take your umbrella with you!
New Year’s Day starts off with leftover showers in the morning, but will mostly dry out in the afternoon while remaining cloudy (although we could see a brief passing shower around). Highs will will be in the upper 40s. Once that whole storm system departs we start to go into a much colder pattern! Despite the widespread sunshine, Thursday’s highs will only be near 40s and a gusty wind can make it feel like the low 30s. Then, by the weekend, we’ll only be in the low 30s and in fact, Sunday may not even reach 30° for some!
