Westerly man arrested after allegedly attacking wife with hammer
WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Westerly Police Department said a 72-year-old man was arrested on Dec. 29 after allegedly attacking his wife with a hammer during an argument.
Robert Kaczynski was charged with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling, domestic assault of a person over 60-years-old causing serious bodily injury, and domestic disorderly conduct.
Police responded to a home on Passapataug Avenue around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a call where the suspect said he attacked his wife with a hammer.
Arriving police said they found Kaczynski on the front steps of the home, covered in blood, with his hands in the air.
He was taken into custody, and the victim told police that he was her husband and she was attacked “continually” before officers arrived.
Police said the victim had “bodily injuries to the face and skull” that were consistent with a “claw hammer.”
The department said the victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
