Patriots fans react to Jerod Mayo being fired
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — New England Patriots fans expressed mixed opinions after Jerod Mayo was fired from his position as head coach.
Most fans told ABC6 News they weren’t surprised, but there were a few who felt like this decision came too soon and wished the team gave Jerod Mayo more time to prove himself.
“I think it was necessary and I wasn’t surprised,” New Hampshire resident Faith St. Gelais said.
On Jan. 5, the New England Patriots fired Jerod Mayo as head coach after a win against against the Buffalo Bills.
“With the news about coach Mayo, I think it was probably the right decision,” London, UK resident Jake Woodwald said. “I don’t think we’ve got the time to sort of wait for someone to grow into the role unfortunately. I think that’s just the way the NFL is now.”
While some fans said they were not surprised, others said it felt like the decision came too soon.
“I couldn’t believe it happened,” Mansfield resident Braeden Veno said. “I thought it was really unfair that you only give a coach not a lot of good pieces and you only give him a year.”
“The fact that they fired him right after a game was surprising,” Franklin resident Logan Walsh said. “I figured they would have given it like a week.”
Despite a 4-13 season, fans said they are still hopeful for a bright future for the Pats.
“Patriots Nation as a whole are not fair-weather fans,” St. Gelais said. “You have to lose sometimes. Hopefully this is our losing season and next year we’ll be back on track.”
