PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Residents of many Rhode Island communities shouldn’t be surprised to get a knock on their door from a U.S. census worker in the next few days.
The U.S. Census Bureau says about 1,000 census takers will be fanning out across Providence County starting Wednesday going door-to-door to collect information from households that did not respond to the 2018 Census Test.
The Nonresponse Followup is the next major operation of the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2018 Census Test.
Jeff Behler, director of the bureau’s regional office, urges cooperation and assures residents it is illegal to publicly release responses in any way that could identify someone.
The 2018 test is part of preparations for the nation’s upcoming 2020 Census.
Providence County encompasses the cities and towns in the northern portion of the state.
