Johnston, R.I. (WLNE) – The decline in mass attendance has caused another change for a catholic parish.

St. Brigid church in Johnston will become a "mission" of St. Rocco parish in town.

The diocese of providence says the decline in mass attendance has also affected the number in marriages, first communions, and confirmations at St. Brigid’s. The pastor is also retiring.

The church will now only be open for liturgical celebrations.

Parishioners were notified of the change this past weekend. I will go into effect July 1st.
