Pedestrian struck by Amtrak train in Central Falls

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) – A person was struck by an Amtrak train in Central Falls Saturday afternoon.

According to an Amtrak spokesperson, Amtrak Northeast Regional train 82 was on its way to Boston from Richmond, Virginia when it struck a person on the tracks in Central Falls around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

The person was trespassing at the time.

The incident caused a delay of approximately one hour and five minutes.

The Amtrak representative confirmed that none of the 173 passengers or crew members on board were injured.

The Amtrak spokesperson said that around 2,000 people are killed or injured in grade crossing and trespassing incidents nationwide each year.

Amtrak Police is cooperating with the Central Falls Police to investigate the incident.
