UPDATE: Arrest made in New Bedford homicide

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Police have arrested a suspect in Saturday’s fatal shooting at Morna Lounge and Grill, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Danielson Varela, 19, of New Bedford, was arrested Sunday night and charged with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and two counts of assault and battery with a firearm.

Police found three gunshot victims upon their arrival at the scene Saturday at 1:21 a.m., two females and one male, who were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The two female victims were treated for their injuries.

The male victim, Cristiano Macedo, 27, was pronounced dead.

Varela will be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court.
