East Providence Mayor DaSilva proclamation emphasizes city commitment to DEI
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Mayor Bob DaSilva signed a proclamation Wednesday asserting East Providence’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
The proclamation says the city will continue to adhere to the policies of the affirmative action plan and Civil Rights Act of 1964, to promote equal opportunity in employment and prevent discrimination on the basis of race, religion, sex, age and disabilities.
The proclamation comes as president Trump pushes efforts to end DEI programs within the federal government.
Trump also ended affirmative action in federal contracting and ordered all federal DEI staff to be put on paid leave, and eventually laid off.
