New Bedford Police arrest adult, juvenile on firearm charges

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said it arrested an adult and juvenile for alleged firearm possession.
19-year-old Damian Breton and the 17-year-old juvenile were charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.
Police said detectives were performing surveillance in the area of Myrtle Street and Weld Street around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 when they “observed two males wearing ski masks with their hands in their sweatshirts.”
The department alleged that when officers approached the two a foot pursuit began, and Breton pulled something from his waistband and threw it into a backyard on Smith Street.
The 17-year-old also allegedly threw an object over a fence on Chestnut Street.
Both suspects were taken into custody, and searches of the two areas where objects were thrown allegedly found two Smith & Wesson firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition.
The juvenile was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services.
