Woman injured in East Providence house fire

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman was taken to the hospital after a house fire in East Providence late Monday afternoon.

East Providence firefighters responded to a home on Ide Avenue around 2:45 p.m. and were able to contain the fire to a room on the second floor.

Battalion Chief Joseph Crowshaw said a woman evacuated on her own but burned her hand while escaping the flames.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home, according to Crowshaw, who added things could have ended “much worse.”

The cause is still under investigation, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
