Boston Mayor Wu invited to testify in House investigation of sanctuary cities

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has been invited to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in their investigation of “sanctuary jurisdictions across the United States and their impact on public safety.”
According to a January 27 letter sent to Mayor Wu by Rep. James Comer, the chairman of the committee, Wu has been asked to appear before the committee on February 11 at 10 a.m.
According to the letter:
Boston is a sanctuary jurisdiction under the Boston Trust Act, which the Boston City Council recently voted unanimously to reaffirm. Further, Boston is also subject to Massachusetts’s judicial precedent finding ICE detainers an unlawful exercise of state power. Mayor Michelle Wu “reiterated Boston’s status as a sanctuary city” shortly after the 2024 presidential election.
The committee also requested documents relevant to Boston’s status as a sanctuary city from January 1, 2024 to present.
Mayors Eric Adams of New York City, Brandon Johnson of Chicago and Mike Johnston of Denver were also invited to testify on the matter.
ABC6 has reached out to Mayor Wu’s office for comment in this matter.
