NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell said that the city was “stronger today than it was a year ago” during his annual State of the City Address.

The mayor spoke after a luncheon at New Bedford High School.

He touted the city’s expansion of the city’s offshore wind investments, work on the South Coast Rail, and the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Route 18 as major accomplishments.

Mitchell also laid out plans for the city in the coming year, including a “road map” to revitalize the manufacturing center, a new strategic economic development plan, and proposing ordinances to “spur housing development.”
