PROVIDENCE (WLNE)- Plymouth Fire Department Chief G. Edward Bradley issued a warning about a dangerous viral video stunt after firefighters were called to Plymouth North High School Tuesday.
The department responded to a call at the high school concerning an outlet that was reported as arcing.
Directed to a classroom, they were shown an scorched Iphone charger with a penny fused to its prongs.
In the back of the room, they were shown a blackened electrical outlet.
A teacher told firefighters that two students placed a penny between the charger and the outlet, causing sparks and smoke.
The students had done it to two outlets in a matter of minutes, according to the statement.
No one was injured and the class room was determined to be safe.
Firefighters believe the students were imitating a stunt seen on the video messaging app Tik Tok.
It was reported that at least one other school in the state had a similar incident.
“These actions are extremely dangerous and could potentially start a fire and cause thousands of dollars in property damage,” Bradley said. “It could also cause serious injury to anyone who is nearby.”
Bradley urged parents to have a conversation about the dangers of recreating viral video stunts.
