Day two of Charlotte Lester murder case bail hearing
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Mark Perkins was back in court for day two of his bail hearing in the Charlotte Lester murder case on Tuesday.
Perkins is charged with the murder of Lester, who was missing for two years.
In November, Lester’s remains were discovered by a hunter in a wooded area near the Exeter-West Greenwich town line.
That hunter testified on the stand Tuesday.
“I was almost at my truck and I look in the brush and I see a little white cone that the sun is shining on, I thought it was a rock,” Warwick resident Mark Bellamy said.
Bellamy said he approached what he thought was a rock, which was about 30-40 feet off the path, but as he got closer, was surprised to find out what it really was.
“I got closer to it and just the corner of it was sticking out of the leaves,” Bellamy explained. “I pushed it over with a barrel on my gun and that’s when I realized it was a human skull.”
Bellamy added he knew it wasn’t fake as he saw an eye socket and mouth with a teeth.
It was then confirmed through lab testing the remains found in the woods were Lester’s.
Several other witnesses also took the stand Tuesday.
Perkins’ bail hearing is expected to continue through the rest of the week while he remains behind bars.
