Southern New England prepares for snow
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Southern New England is expected to see a few inches of snow Thursday but it’s enough to cause a nuisance.
“All day long people have been coming in, not so much shovels but ice melt and rock salt because people are anticipating it being icy,” Mt. Pleasant Hardware Owner Mark Gillson said.
Gillson said he’s been keeping up with the forecast.
“Because we have to know if the staffing has to be increased, if we need to order more pallets of salt in anticipation, like we put in an order Thursday coming in on Monday and we’ll have to beef that up knowing there’s a storm coming over the weekend,” Gillson said.
It’s important to prepare now with essentials because more snow is expected this weekend.
When it comes to picking out the perfect salt, there are a few tips you may want to consider.
“We recommend that you buy a combination that has calcium chloride or magnesium chloride in it and not just a pure rock salt, because pure rock salt is the kind of stuff that tracks into the house.” Gillson said. “A lot of people buy sand cause they don’t want it to affect the concrete.”
