RI senate finance committee considers additional cigarettes tax

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island senate finance committee will meet tonight to discuss articles to add to this year, and 2026’s budget.

Among the topics of review by the committee, a proposed additional tax on cigarettes.

The committee will also discuss allocating excess revenue to state employees’ retirement, and an updated digital advertising tax.

The committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the state house.
