Boston federal judge considers blocking Trump birthright citizenship banning executive order
BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A federal judge in Boston is considering a request from 18 state attorneys general to block President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship.
The action denies US citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants, or lawful immigrants who are in the US temporarily.
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell addressed the media Friday with the AGs of Connecticut and New Jersey.
Campbell said:
Millions of Americans were born to immigrant parents, and hundreds of millions can trace their citizenship back to immigrant ancestors, ancestors who built our country and fueled our economy under the protections of the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution. The president cannot change the constitution with a sharpie or a sham executive order.
According to the lawsuit filed by Campbell, 4,200 children born in Massachusetts in 2022 “Were born to two parents who were noncitizens and lacked legal status.”
Today’s hearing in Boston marks the third legal challenge for one of President Trump’s most controversial executive actions.
