PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A rally protesting the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s involvement in the federal government was held in Providence Saturday.

The Rhode Island Working Families Party said the “Emergency Rally to End Musk Government Takeover” took place in front of Sen. Jack Reed’s Providence office to demand action against the administration.

Indivisible RI, Climate Action RI, RI Working Families Party, Black Lives Matter RI PAC RI, and Common Cause Rhode Island were also part of the organizing effort.

The party said that its demands include Democratic senators to use tools  in order to protest Musk’s access to payment systems for government programs.

Specifically, the party called for “placing a blanket hold on all Trump nominees moving forward, denying unanimous consent to grind Senate business to a crawl, and using quorum calls to disrupt the flow of GOP business in the Senate.”

“We need Senators Reed and [Sheldon] Whitehouse to use every available tool at their disposal to protect all Americans from what Musk and others are doing and to get Donald Trump to tell Elon Musk, ‘You’re fired!'” Common Cause Rhode Island Executive Director John Marion said.

A spokesperson for Reed’s office said the senator “appreciates their activism and continues working hard to hold the Trump administration accountable.”

The Associated Press reported that a federal judge blocked Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Treasury Department records that contain sensitive personal data.
