Man arrested after car theft leads to crash

PROVIDENCE (WLNE)- Woonsocket police arrested a man after he crashed a stolen car and took off on foot.
Police said Jonathan Winiarski, 31, of Woonsocket, got behind the wheel of a car with its engine running at a Dunkin’ restaurant on Cumberland Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Winiarski crashed the car into multiple vehicles on Route 99 in Cumberland before fleeing on foot, according to a statement from Woonsocket Deputy Chief Michael Lemoine.
A K9 assisted search was promptly initiated and the suspect was taken into custody in Woonsocket, where he was charged with larceny over $1500 and driving without a license.
It is believed that minor injuries were sustained during the crash. Cumberland police are investigating.
