Raynham Police says officers and fire crews saved two victims’ lives in January

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Raynham Police Department said members of the police and fire departments provided life-saving aid on two different days in January.
In early January, patrolwoman Amanda Wong, patrolman Daniel Fitch, and fire crews saved two lives on separate occasions.
On Jan. 4, patrolwoman Wong responded to a home on Carver Street after a man was reported to be unresponsive, not breathing, and did not have a pulse.
At the scene, Wong set up her automated external defibrillator while a family member was involved in CPR.
Wong and the family member worked together to secure the electrode pads on the victim’s chest, and delivered a shock once the AED advised to do so.
Wong took over chest compressions until fire crews arrived and brought the individual, who was now conscious, to a local hospital.
Days later, police were told the patient was expected to recover, according to Raynham police.
“Patrolwoman Wong provided two rounds of CPR and delivered two shocks to the patient, which greatly contributed to saving the patient’s life,” Raynham Police Chief LaPlante said. “Her quick response while providing quality CPR and her ability to adapt proved to be extremely vital in the patient’s survival.”
On Jan. 5, patrolman Fitch responded to a residence to assist with the Raynham Fire Department.
Once he arrived, Fitch discovered the victim was unresponsive and had no pulse, and set up an AED.
The AED did not advise a shock, so Fitch began chest compressions and paramedics administered an oral airway, according to Raynham police.
During the response, Fitch assisted with CPR and helped move the patient down the stairs and into the ambulance.
By the time the patient was taken to the hospital, they had a pulse.
Officials said that patient is also expected to survive.
“Due to Patrolman Fitch’s high-quality CPR, quick update to paramedics, and aid in moving the patient down a narrow staircase, the patient’s life was saved,” Chief LaPlante said.
