Warwick man convicted of firing gun at neighbor’s home while intoxicated
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Warwick man has been found guilty of firing a gun at city residence inhabited by a family with three young children, according to Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.
Stephen Shoesmith, 49, was found guilty of four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon Thursday in Providence Superior Court.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2021 when police say Shoesmith fired two shots at the Lincoln Avenue residence from his neighboring home.
The occupant and her three children, ages 1, 3 and 6 were home at the time.
No one was injured in the incident.
On August 8, Shoesmith called police and reported finding a shell casing matching those found at the scene on his lawn while he was mowing.
Police executed a search warrant on Shoesmith’s home for an unrelated matter on June 17, 2022 and found a .380 handgun and .380 ammunition.
Shoesmith admitted to police that he fired two shots at the home from his window while intoxicated on August 6, 2021.
He also told police he planted the shell casing in front of his home in an attempt to confuse the police investigation.
