Rhode Island high school mourns loss of soccer coach

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION, R.I. (WLNE) — The Chariho High School community is mourning the loss of their assistant girls’ soccer coach, Michael “Scotty” McGuire who passed away on Monday.

McGuire was part of the school district for a decade.

A moment of silence was held at this week’s meeting for school officials after they shared the superintendent’s announcement.

The head coach of girls’ soccer and lacrosse, Brittney Godbout shared her favorite memories of Scotty.

In big games when we went into penalty kicks, scotty would turn away from the field, unable to watch. He wouldn’t turn around until he heard a cheer or a big sigh from the stands. He had so much passion for the game, so much emotion, he was often brought to tears whether it be for a big win or a heartbreaking defeat.
