Crews begin demolition of Washington Bridge substructure

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee said crews began the demolition of the Washington Bridge substructure on Monday.
Last week, the demolition of the bridge’s superstructure was completed.
According to McKee, the work will be done during the day, and noise and dust controls will be monitored.
The substructure demolition is expected to be finished by the end of 2025, according to McKee.
“This represents another significant step forward in our work to deliver a new bridge that will outlast our lifetimes,” McKee said.
