Providence man arrested for aggressive panhandling

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Police arrested a man for aggressively panhandling in Providence and surrounding communities, according to the Providence Police Dept.
Marquis Melia, 28, had a warrant out for his arrest for simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Police responded to the Walmart on Silver Spring St. on Saturday around 3:45 p.m. for a report of a man that was wanted, according to Commander Thomas Verdi.
As police were in route to Walmart, dispatch advised police that the man was traveling up Silver Spring St. toward Branch Avenue. Police stopped Melia on the overpass of Branch Ave.
Melia was released on personal recognizance. He will be back in court in February.
