Massachusetts State Police investigating New Bedford shooting death

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford woman has died after suffering gunshot wounds in an incident Tuesday night, according to the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III.

The incident occurred at 6:20 p.m. when New Bedford police and EMS personnel responded to a Bolton Street residence for reports of a female lying in the first floor hallway bleeding.

Police located the victim, Karina Martinez-Ortiz, 32, on the floor in front of her first-floor apartment.

Life-saving measures were taken and she was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased from several gunshot wounds.

The investigation is “extremely active” according to the Bristol County DA’s office.
