East Greenwich School Committee approves leave of absence, resignation of Superintendent

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The East Greenwich School Committee said it unanimously approved a leave of absence and resignation of the school’s Superintendent Dr. Brian Ricca.

On Feb. 13, the East Greenwich Education Association said it voted “no confidence” for both Superintendent Brian Ricca and Assistant Superintendent Sarah Courtemanche-O’Brien.

At the meeting on March 4, the committee decided Ricca would resign on June 30, and EGEA voted no confidence in Courtemanche-O’Brien.

However, the committee did not take further action regarding Courtemanche-O’Brien’s role.

According to the East Greenwich School Committee, Ricca became Superintendent in July 2022 after two “prior stints” as Superintendent in Vermont.

In the meantime, Alexis L. Meyer will come out of retirement and take the place of Ricca as the Interim Superintendent for EGPS, who was the Superintendent from February 2020 to April 2022.
