RI rep renews calls for armed officers at public colleges after CCRI lockdown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — In the wake of Thursday’s lockdown at CCRI, one state representative is renewing his call to change a policy for campus police on public colleges.

Calling the CCRI lockdown a wake up call, Representative William O’Brien said campus police officers should be armed.

Representative O’Brien has been introducing a bill to do just that for several years now.

Currently, URI is the only school to have armed police.
