BBA in Dartmouth is restricting access to courts after car meet, damage to space

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Burgo Basketball Association Inc. said it will be restricting access to its basketball courts after drivers used the courts for a car meetup.

The organization said the courts will be closed by 6 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m.

On March 9, around 6:40 p.m., the BAA said at least three vehicles and 5 people were involved in a car meet, and surveillance video captured two vehicles “acting recklessly” on courts four and five.

The BAA also said the vehicles were doing donuts in the asphalt behind the courts, which left marks that were at least a foot deep.

The area behind the courts was the foundation for a new building, which now will need “even more work on it,” according to the BAA

“We would like the remind the community that the BBA was built to be a safe space to play basketball for the community, and is family owned and maintained. We have been leaving our doors open as many come and play basketball daily, even through the winter, however we can NOT tolerate or be silent on reckless, destructive and disrespectful behavior on our property,” the BAA said.

The BAA said it notified the Dartmouth Police Department and the incident is under investigation.
