Stop Torture RI pushing for possible inmate violation investigations, prison body cam bill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The group Stop Torture RI is pushing for a new oversight committee at the state house to look into possible violations to inmates while they are committed to solitary confinement.

The group will hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon at the state house.

According to the group, this push comes after seven inmates died in solitary confinement in 2023.

The group is also pushing for a new bill that would require correctional officers and administrators to wear body cameras that are always on.

That press conference is at 3 p.m. at the state house.
