Family dog alerted Coventry family to house fire
COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A family was able to safely evacuate from their Coventry home during a fire Tuesday morning, thanks to the family dog.
The fire chief said that the dog started barking, alerting the family on Town Farm Road to a fire in the garage.
The fire quickly spread to the house.
Several of the family’s cats are still missing, but the family of six is safe.
The American Red Cross will be assisting the family Tuesday night.
Coventry fire personnel said that the location of the fire presented a challenge in extinguishing the blaze.
The state fire marshal’s office is working to help Coventry firefighters determine the fire’s cause.
