Brown University announces hiring freeze in the face of federal government ‘uncertainty’

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Brown University is implementing a temporary, staff-wide hiring freeze, according to a statement from the university released Thursday morning.

The freeze begins immediately and will remain in effect through the end of the 2025 fiscal year.

In a letter this morning, Provost Francis Doyle and Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, Sarah Latham wrote that the freeze is in response to “uncertainty” the university faces from the federal government.
