Pawtucket man pleads guilty to fraud in purchase of $95,000 car

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Pawtucket man has been convicted of using fraudulent information to apply online for a loan to purchase a $95,713 vehicle from a dealership in New Hampshire.

According to the office of Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom, Roy Sweets, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy and wire fraud.

In May of 2022, Sweets used another person’s personal information to apply for a loan in order to purchase a 2022 Land Rover.

A co-conspirator provided Sweets with a fraudulent New Hampshire driver’s license featuring Sweet’s image along with a resident’s personal information.

He presented the fraudulent license at the dealership on May 10, 2022 to complete the purchase and take possession of the vehicle, which totaled $111,183.

Sweets will be sentenced on June 10, 2025 by a federal district judge.
