Juvenile arrested after BB gun fired in parking lot of Newport school

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said a juvenile was taken into custody after Rogers High School was put into lockdown due to gunshots being heard in the parking lot.

Police responded to the school around 11 a.m. after receiving reports of the gunshots, and discovered that a BB gun was the source of the shots.

Police then took the juvenile, who allegedly fired the shots to show the function of the weapon, into custody.

The department added that it believed there was no threat to the school and that no person was targeted by the shots.

The juvenile faces “multiple charges.”
