Red Sox hosting home opener with many new faces in 2025

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Red Sox baseball is back in Boston, with the team hosting its home opener Friday at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox are coming off their first series win of the season against Baltimore, and a major part of that was Boston’s new ace, Garrett Crochet.

The lefty was acquired this offseason, signing a seven-year extension with the team Monday, then shutting out the Orioles through eight innings Wednesday.

Friday morning, Crochet explained why he knew he wanted to be in Boston long term, saying the team’s outlook was especially promising.

Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow also locked up another budding star this week, as second baseman Kristian Campbell signed an eight-year deal Tuesday.

Campbell was hitting .400 through his first seven big league games coming into Friday.

With young talent secure for many years to come, Manager Alex Cora expressed excitement about the team’s future Friday.

There are many other new names to be excited about on the Red Sox, including third baseman Alex Bregman and Friday’s starter Walker Buehler.

Both signed with Boston this offseason and will make their Fenway debuts in a Sox uniform.

Boston will also be honoring members of the 1975 Red Sox, 50 years after they won the pennant.

Among those to be honored is Red Sox Hall of Famer Luis Tiant, who passed away this past fall.

ABC6 will have highlights coming up after the game.
