Fans celebrate Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — It was a spectacular day for the Red Sox home opener, and fans came out in droves Friday.

Over 36,000 spectators travelled from near and far to celebrate the start of the season at home.

After a couple of down years, fans said new faces on the team are a sign to be optimistic.

And some old faces also made a return, with the team honoring Boston’s 1975 pennant-winning team.

Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski threw out the first pitch of the day.

The Red Sox beat the Cardinals 13-9.
