Tempo and Tandem: Officials to unveil portion of Providence affordable housing project
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — In a major step forward in Providence’s innovation district, Monday will see the grand opening of Tempo and the groundbreaking of Tandem.
It’s a two-phase project aimed at bringing affordable housing, retail, childcare and public spaces to the I-195 Redevelopment District.
City and state leaders will gather this afternoon to celebrate a vision that promises to transform this parcel into a thriving, mixed-income community.
The development, led by Pennrose in partnership with the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission and the City of Providence, is split into two phases: Tempo and Tandem.
Tempo, the first phase, features 66 high-quality apartments ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, with rents spanning from 30 to 120 percent of the area median income.
It also includes a 6,900 square foot childcare facility for Children’s Friend and over 1,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
The second phase, Tandem, will add 61 more units and provide shared amenities like a rooftop deck, lounge and fitness center.
The location is strategic, right along I-195, close to transit, and connected to the city walk pathway, making it a welcoming space for residents and the community.
Mayor Brett Smiley, Speaker Shekarchi, Senator DiPalma, and other local leaders are all expected at Monday’s event.
They said that this is just the beginning of what’s to come for the innovation district.
