Two Coventry town council members resign, cite disagreements with Town Solicitor and council

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — Two Coventry town council members resigned from their roles on Monday.
James LeBlanc, formerly of District 3, and Scott Copley, formerly of District 5, posted to Facebook Monday night, sharing their resignation letters.
In Copley’s social media post, he expressed disagreements with council members and the Town Solicitor.
In a resignation letter posted to Facebook, LeBlanc said, “the current Town Solicitor contract has provisions in it that directly violate the Coventry Home Rule Town Charter, yet no action has been taken by this Council to rectify the violations.”
In LeBlanc’s post, he said:
“My resignation letter that was submitted with the Town Clerk today. Please know I tried my best for the taxpayers and residents of this town. We have a great town – hope someone will run in District 3 that will not only represent District 3, but all residents and taxpayers.”
Coventry will hold a town council meeting on April 8 at 6 p.m.
