Student at RISD notified of terminated international student visa status
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A student at the Rhode Island School of Design has been notified that their student visa status has been marked as “terminated,” according to a Monday statement from RISD President Crystal Williams.
The unnamed student will be offered possible legal resources and support from the school.
Williams said that the school was not notified of the reason for the student’s visa termination.
“Like so many communities of higher education that are affected by changing guidance and policies, we are deeply concerned by these developments and are closely monitoring the situation,” said Williams.
“As a global art and design school, our international students are vital to RISD, and we remain committed to preserving our mission and RISD’s dynamic and necessary global community of artists and designers.”
International RISD students with F-1 and J-1 visas who have questions or concerns about their status can contact the school’s International Students and Scholar Affairs office at 401-277-4957.
