Road to Responsibility: helping those with disabilities thrive in the community

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Road to Responsibility’s mission to help adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities is continuing in Taunton.

“The people that we support have as much to give as anybody else, but the rest of the world doesn’t know that,” Road to Responsibility CEO and President Chris White said.

Road to Responsibility partners with the Taunton Area Community Table, allowing those in the program to come to the kitchen and help serve, clean, and set the tables.

“If you put the work in, you can achieve it,” Stoughton resident David Miller said. “It gives me purpose and it’s something to keep my hands busy.”

Miller has been working at the TACT for years now, and most of his time is spent cleaning the dishes.

“A lot of places won’t hire or even accept them as volunteers because they think they can’t, but they can,” Taunton Area Community Table Chef Jeremy Melusky said. “They take pride in everything they do and it shows in their work.”

On average, the community table serves about 50 people who are in need each day.

It’s all about getting people like Miller to truly live in the community.

“Coming in and seeing how functional they are with a little direction and the pride they take in their work; I get goosebumps from that,” Melusky said.
