Lawyers for detained Tufts student pushing for her release
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorneys representing Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk will argue for her release Monday.
Ozturk’s attorneys have filed a petition questioning the legality of her detention.
Video from March shows Ozturk being approached by six ICE agents and taken into custody.
The American Civil Liberties Union says Ozturk was driven to Vermont, before being sent to a detention center in Louisiana.
The Department of Homeland Security said Ozturk was detained after an investigation found she had “engaged in activities in support of Hamas.”
The department did not provide any evidence in support of that.
