Richmond police remind residents to lock car doors after multiple vehicle breaks-ins, vehicle stolen

RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Richmond Police Department is urging residents to lock their car doors after multiple vehicle break-ins were reported on April 12.
Between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., police said suspects went to several residences on Kenyon Hill Trail, Chelsea Farm, Tall Timbers, Wisteria Lane, and Fox Ridge.
According to police, in some instances, the suspects stole small items, such as sunglasses. However, in one circumstance, the suspects found a vehicle key and stole the vehicle from a driveway. The owner then reported the stolen vehicle to police.
The next day, the owner of the vehicle discovered their credit card had been used in New Haven, Conn. Police subsequently went to the area to process the vehicle.
Police said residents did not discover the thefts until later in the morning due to the suspects not making noise to avoid being detected. In one instance, police said a Ring camera video submitted to the department shows two suspects attempting to open the doors of two separate cars, in which one was able to get inside due to an unlocked door.
Richmond police are using this instance as a reminder to lock vehicle doors and secure belongings out of sight.
