Emergency closure of Laurel Street Bridge in Ashaway

ASHAWAY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced an emergency closure of the bridge on Laurel Street on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson for RIDOT, “there was an issue with the strands that provide the tension with the bridge.”

The Hopkinton Police Department said it is uncertain when the bridge will reopen.

Additionally, the department said detour signs will be put up in the meantime.
