Roof collapses as Providence fire crews work to contain early morning blaze

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence firefighters are investigating what caused a fire at a house on Pine Street that collapsed the structure’s roof.

Flames were seen shooting from the top floor and roof of the home at 1:30 a.m. but the fire was quickly knocked down.

The building is vacant, according to a Providence Fire Department representative, and 47 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The crews had to fight the fire from the exterior because of the roof collapse.

The fire chief on scene could not provide any additional information at the time.

There is no information on any injuries in the incident.
